Istiea is the seat of the Istiea-Edipsos municipality. Geographically located in the northern part of Evia, in the center of a lush and fertile plain, it is 5 km from the sea. From the 15th to the 19th century it was referred to as Xirochori. Istiea has a population of 4,339, according to the 2011 census.
